a lot of people knife edge the crank but run about 1 quart more than normal, minimizing cavitation. I know that at 5 quarts the oil starts coming out thru the turbo return lines - ie the crank is touching the oil when its turning. That will cause more foaming and related issues. The best solution would be to design a better pickup / bigger capacity pan. I always thought the Z oil capacity was woefully inadequate. Harry
